Divya Delhi:  Afghan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi answered effectively when questioned about his team's strategy to tackle Glenn Maxwell before the Champions Trophy match against Australia. Maxwell made 201 runs against Afghanistan in ODI World Cup 2023 and saved Australia from 91 for 7. Shahi said Afghanistan has moved on from that bitter loss and is now focusing on Australia as a collective, not just one player. Shahidi was asked about Maxwell's perceived threat and how Afghanistan would defend against him after their win over England. The Afghan captain laughed off mention of focusing on one man and said they were targeting the entire Australian team. He added that Afghanistan would not share tactics before the match. He wouldn't share his strategy when asked. Afghanistan must win their February 28 match against Australia to advance to the semi-finals. “You think we'll just play Maxwell? Think that will happen? Shahidi joked. “We plan for the entire Australian team. His 2023 World Cup performance was impressive, but that's past. We won the T20 World Cup afterward. We consider the entire opponent, not just one player. We're prepared for Australia, not simply Maxwell, remarked Shahidi to India Today. “Australia is a world-class team. Every team evaluates its opponents' strengths and weaknesses to plan strategies. This is not the place to discuss our plans. Keep it within the team and use it on the field, he said.
