Divya Delhi: The unpredictable actions of US President Donald Trump have taught Canada that the concept of collective security could be quickly undermined. Canada's presidential commitment to spend "2% of GDP on defense" by the end of the current fiscal year was prompted by the risks posed by this "dangerous and divided world." In doing so, it will be in line with the fundamental standard figure outlined by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, a military collective with its headquarters located in Brussels. In 2006, Canada and other member states committed to reaching this number. NATO defense ministers reiterated this 2006 commitment in 2014, and it continues to be the crucial amount that each member nation must invest to transform the alliance into a powerful and internationally deployable organization. Although NATO members' concerns have been exacerbated by the Russia-Ukraine war, it is the unpredictable character of Washington's policymaking that has ultimately driven them over the edge. They cannot sit back and take it easy regarding the sustainability of the US security umbrella. The US has placed strange contractual requirements on provided high-end military weapons, even as it casts doubt on each member's dedication to NATO.
