Divya Delhi: Daily commuters between Delhi and NCR cities must pay Rs 100 for cabs or wait in long border lineups. Delhi Municipal Corporation imposes a ‘green tax’ at various locations, causing traffic jams that waste time and fuel. Problems have lasted for years without resolution. However, there may be hope. The National Highways Authority of India and central government legal intervention try to fix the congestion. Toll collection locations on Delhi's key roadways cause bottlenecks. Two major highways, NH48 Delhi-Gurgaon and NH9 Delhi-Ghaziabad-Noida, are affected. The NHAI will ask MCD to move all toll collection sites from highways' Right of Way. NHAI sources said this measure might greatly alleviate congestion at border crossings by smoothing vehicle circulation, although medium and large vehicles must pay. However, physical collection at five key entry points.   Sarhaul Gurgaon, Ghazipur NH9, Badarpur NH19, Tikri NH10, and Kundli have formed another bottleneck.  One idea is to collect ECC from motorists leaving these expressways before entering Delhi. NHAI is also developing an ANPR-based gantry tolling device to modernize the system. This system will automatically take entry fees from FASTag wallets, eliminating toll plazas. To work well, MCD's toll collection system must be connected with NHAI's FASTag infrastructure. Toll collectors manually scan number plates with mobile devices in MCD's independent system.
