Divya Delhi : Boeing has laid off up to 180 employees at its Bengaluru engineering technology center as part of a global staff reduction operation, PTI reported. Boeing, which has been struggling globally, employs 7,000 people in India, a vital market. Boeing declared a global workforce last year. According to PTI, up to 180 employees at the Boeing India Engineering Technology Center in Bengaluru were laid off in the December quarter of 2024 as part of the global workforce reduction. Boeing did not comment. The source told PTI that smart adjustments were made to restricted roles without harming customers or government operations. The source said India has made more cautious cuts to ensure customer service, safety, and quality, although some functions have been eliminated and others created. The Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) in Bengaluru and Chennai handles complex aerospace projects. Bangalore's wholly-owned engineering and technology campus is one of the company's major non-US investments. Boeing's website reports $1.25 billion in annual sourcing from more than 300 Indian suppliers. Audi announced this week that it will reduce 7,500 European jobs by 2029 to boost profitability. About 14% of the brand's German workers will be laid off, mostly in administration and development.
