DivyaDelhi:In a recent horrifying incident, at least seven college students were reportedly detained for raping a17year.old girl in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore region. One suspect was known to the victim via social media, authorities say. The girl who lives with her grandmother went to see friends Sunday morning but didn't come home, said Coimbatore Police Commissioner A Saravana Sundar. Her grandma filed a missing complaint at Ukkadam police after her phone was off and she couldn't reach her. The survivor returned home Monday morning and told authorities that a buddy who was charged invited her to his Kuniyamuthur residence. He and six friends gangraped her, she said. The defendants, aged 19 and 20, were brought to court. A case was filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences.ct, and all seven were arrested. BJP state president K. Annamalai criticized the ruling DMK as the news spread. He said on X, “The news of a 17.yearold girl being gangraped by 7 students in Coimbatore is disturbing." The rise in drug addiction is leading to a savage attitude in youngsters, as seen in group rapes of girls. He asked, "If the DMK is guilty, will the Chief Minister reveal who gains from blaming the women and pretending to be their father and brother for publicity?"
