Divya Delhi: According to local media, 25 Bangladesh Civil Service cadres went on strike to protest government personnel suspensions. Bangladesh's Inter-Cadre Discrimination Elimination Council declared a full-day work boycott in solidarity with suspended government officials. Simply sharing their ideas on social media got these officials suspended. A press release from the group indicated that officials would protest in front of their offices wearing black badges and waving placards, according to The Daily Star. The organization claimed that 13 officials from different cadres were suspended for Facebook posts, but administrative cadre members were not punished. "The administration cadre has exploited the discriminatory state system to suppress officials from the 25 other cadres," it said. Inter-State Council Coordinator Muhammad Mofizur Rahman told local media in Bangladesh, "We are issuing a one-week ultimatum for the reinstatement of the officials who were suspended for expressing their personal opinions on social media." The situation must be remedied within a week, otherwise Mofizur will announce stricter programs. "We hope the concerned authorities will take necessary steps to address the matter," he said. In media interviews, the council presented 15 points to alleviate inequities among Bangladesh Civil Service ranks. Mofizur noted that the 25 cadres had previously proposed profession-based ministries and removing deputy secretary quotas to the Public Administration Reform Commission. According to local media sources, the Public Administration Reform Commission proposed a 50:50 quota for admin and other cadres for deputy secretary positions. "If fully implemented, this report will undermine state reform efforts and strengthen administrative fascism,"
