Divya Delhi: After officials removed Harvard University's ability to admit international students, the university filed a lawsuit against the US government. This incident is a part of the continuing conflict between the renowned university and President Donald Trump. Dr. Alan M. Garber, president of Harvard, denounced the ruling as unlawful and unjust in a statement. According to him, the institution is suing the government and will ask a judge to halt them. "We denounce this unjustified and illegal action. It puts thousands of Harvard academics' and students' careers in jeopardy and serves as a warning to many others at colleges and universities across the nation who have traveled to the United States to further their education and realize their aspirations, Mr. Garber stated. "A application for a temporary restraining order will be made in response to the complaint we recently filed. We will make every effort to assist our academics and students as we seek legal remedies. He continued, "As new information becomes available, the Harvard International Office will provide periodic updates." Just hours before the lawsuit, the government decided to prohibit Harvard from accepting international students. The Student and Exchange Visitor initiative (SEVP), a joint government initiative that manages the enrollment of international students attending classes in the United States, is linked to this decision. According to Harvard, almost 6,000 overseas students attended the university during the 2024–2025 academic year, accounting for more than 27% of all enrolled students.
