Divya Delhi:  Questions have been raised regarding the pollution of the water at Prayagraj, where millions of Hindus had taken a sacred dip, after he rejected claims that fecal germs were present in the river water. After the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board was criticized by the National Green Tribunal for failing to provide the court with sufficient information, notably on fecal coliform levels, the debate intensified even further. The Central Pollution Control Board has previously reported that Sangam water had significant concentrations of fecal bacteria. The   stated in an affidavit that the Ganga and Yamuna water quality is normal, which sparked the issue around the Sangam's water quality. "Why have you filed such a huge document then?" was the question posed when the UPPCB was pulled for the early water sample collection. To squander our time? When the Additional Advocate General showed up, he stated that the board had the most recent water tests and will provide a report and action-taken report in a week. Additionally, he asserted that water samples were collected at regular intervals and that corrective action was also done. However, because of the high levels of fecal coliform, a crucial sign of sewage contamination, the water quality at several locations along the Prayagraj river during the present Maha Kumbh did not fulfill the primary guidelines for bathing, according to the report. Additionally, it stated in its report that the presence of fecal coliform at all monitored locations on repeated occasions caused the water quality to fall short of primary bathing standards. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, however, referred to it as opposition propaganda. He even went so far as to say that the water during the current Maha Kumbh was suitable for aachman, or the practice of drinking holy water. According to the UP Information Department, the total number of persons taking the holy bath in the river during Maha Kumbh 2025 has surpassed 55 crore, with over 30.94 lakh devotees doing so on Wednesday until 8 am.
