AKI, Apple's new search team, aims to mimic ChatGPT. Despite delays and controversy, the team wants to improve Siri and other Apple products' search capabilities. Apple is one of the most profitable firms, but OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic have been dominating the AI market while Apple struggles to launch its own. Apple Intelligence, its artificial intelligence features, were revealed at WWDC last year after a protracted delay, but things haven't gone as planned. Its Siri update has been delayed for months, and various other AI capabilities have been criticized for being inaccurate and less effective than those on rival handsets like Google's Pixel and Samsung's Galaxy series. Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly told his employees earlier this month that AI may be as huge as the internet and that Apple will triumph. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reported that Apple is working on a stripped-down ChatGPT with search features shortly after. It's intriguing that Apple earlier downplayed the necessity for a chatbot, stating that user demand is low. Siri can use ChatGPT for tough questions. The company has also considered partnering with AI-based search providers like Perplexity to offer a new experience. According to Gurman, Apple is developing a search-focused chatbot.
