Divya Delhi: The sponsorship of Khalistani extremist groups in Canada has raised concerns in a recent Canadian investigation. Canada has now admitted that Babbar Khalsa International, International Sikh Youth Federation, and Sikhs for Justice operate from Canada and receive funding in this report. This is part of a comprehensive examination by the Canadian Department of Finance on money laundering and terror financing. The report states that Khalistani groups “are suspected of raising funds in a number of countries, including Canada.” The investigation also notes financial ties between Canada and foreign terrorist groups. Hamas and Hezbollah are considered Politically Motivated Violent Extremists. According to “Several terrorist entities listed under the Criminal Code in Canada that fall under the PMVE category, such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Khalistani violent extremist groups Babbar Khalsa International and the International Sikh Youth Federation, have been observed by law enforcement and intelligence agencies to receive financial support from Canada.” This formal announcement changes Canada's policy on extremism funding and shows that blocking terrorist funding remains difficult.
